Almost 10,000 full-time students are currently studying in over 50 programmes at the 14 Colleges and Schools of ZUMC. The University grew out of the Zhejiang Radio & TV Higher Specialised School which was affiliated with China's State Administration of Radio Film and Television. In May 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the School was upgraded to a university and changed its name to the present Zhejiang Universityof Media & Communications.
In October 2011, the Ministry of Education of China granted the University the right to confer Master’s degrees in Journalism and Media
Communications. The University has two campuses, one in Xiasha Higher Education Zone, Hangzhou and the other is in Tongxiang.
ZUMC consists of 14 self-governing Schools and Colleges, 3 Departments and 7 other research Institutes above China's provincial level.

The University is well-equipped with advanced teaching and experimental facilities that guarantee our students a professional, efficient, and people-friendly learning environment. The total value of educational instruments and facilities has reached 180 million RMB. The 22-storey multi-functional Media Tower that houses 17 broadcasting studios of various sizes has been a production base for broadcasting radio and television programmes, teaching/research activities and social services.
