About School
Teaching philosophy/values: Bright from the Start. Care and Trust. Preparing for Life.
We are inspired by the learning theories of educator and philosopher John Dewey and the Multiple Intelligence theory of Howard Gardner from Harvard University.
We are passionate to bring bilingual research based education and the latest technology to give our children the strongest start.
We provide nurturing play based learning activities which are engaging and fun which cultivate an appreciation for nature and respect and care for the environment.
Star America preschool is the one of most professional children daycare center in New York City. Our 6 branches respectively located in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Our central is located on 8th Ave, Manhattan, where is next to the Time Square.
Established in 1998, Star America invested a great deal of effort goes into children’s early education in our centers .We only have the most passionate, qualified and experienced staff who commit to ongoing professional development. Our teachers are also a big contributing factor to the popularity of our centers as they work tirelessly to ensure children to receive the best possible early childhood education.
Our Approach
We have a huge passion to bring the latest and the most advance education into our classroom because we believe all children should get the best start. We provide a rigorous 21st Century Learning with a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM) to build their strong 4C(Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication) skills.
Our curriculum are deeply influenced by Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences theory that we firmly believe children have equal potentials in 8 intelligent domains(Linguistic, Logical-mathematical, Spatial, intelligence, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Musical , Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Naturalist). We implement Thinking Routine which from Harvard University Project Zero in our classroom as well as create various activities to help children to See, Think and Wonder during and after each activity. Through documenting their reflection and assessment, we dedicatedly find out and nurture their prominent intelligences.
Our Mission
John Dewery said Children learn through real encounters and experiments. We are working together to provide opportunities for the children to expose to various activities such as experiencing the latest technology, creating buildings or robots, portrait themselves and edit songs ,visiting museums and observing animals. Through these authentic experiences, we help children to overall develop in 8 intelligence domains. (Linguistic, Logical-mathematical, Spatial, intelligence, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Musical , Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Naturalist). We want to make learning fun, We aim to offer children first hand experience of a wide range of materials and to expand their awareness of the world around them.
Core Value
Nurturing the growth and well being of one another is at the heart of our mission. Even as a child, we can be aware of the wisdom and beauty within another person and acknowledge their higher purpose. When we honor and call forth the best of one another, we grow immeasurably. Our core values have always been the foundation on which our community was built. By naming these values, we intend to expand our inner-capacity to learn and love well. Our classrooms are living examples of these ideals; they are felt, heard and seen in action everyday. We believe these values will be present in our children throughout their lives as active citizens, lifelong learners, and loyal friends.
Philosophy
We believe that all children need and deserve the most advanced learning opportunities to thrive as tomorrow’s leaders, workers, and citizens.
At Star America, teaching and learning means:
a place for everybody to participate and contribute in their own ways, as children learn to be citizens of the world
discovery learning based on fun, playful, creative and challenging experiences, allowing risk-taking and provoking a sense of wonder and awe
a focus on growing brains, problem-solving, perseverance, responsibility, and learning how to learn, interweaving literacy and numeracy
children learn to be friends and make friends
children and adults teaching each other and learning together
homely environments that help children connect directly with the natural world in ‘kiwi’-style backyards
healthy attitudes to growing and learning together
Building strong relationships with families and our wider community, recognizing that children come from diverse backgrounds.
encouraging sustainable practices and attitudes
Environment
In every classroom at Star America, the “environment is the third teacher.” Teachers make environmental choices purposefully, assuring that the space is welcoming and clearly organized. The variety of classroom centers and activities that are available each day helps assure that the environment is content rich, providing children a range of opportunities to engage in focused play, conversation, and exploration. Teachers also plan with each child’s skills and needs in mind, so that the experiences offered balance the need for practice with the need for challenge as children move forward in their physical, social, intellectual, and emotional, development.
